What Goes In The Cart?

This month we’ll be talking more about what goes in your curbside recycling cart, and what doesn’t. This is important because for recycling to work in our community, and we want it to work, residential consumers need to know the do’s and don’ts. Without your know-how, an effective recycling program will suffer. The first thing about “know-how” is knowing how the recycling sorting equipment works. That’s the equipment that separates the items you put in your curbside cart so you don’t have to. In order for this equipment to do its job, it needs to run smoothly. That means we all need to make sure nothing in the cart can get wrapped around the machinery or tangled up – like rope, hoses, wire, clothing. It also means that plastic bottles and metal cans are completely empty so they can move along the conveyor belts and be separated by a blower or a magnet. All of the July social media posts will focus on these know-how subjects. Stay tuned.
