Spring Cleaning Do’s and Don’t’s

When you are doing your version of Spring Cleaning this year, it’s important to know what does and does not belong in your recycling cart.

Cleaning out the pantry or cabinets? All aluminum/tin/steel cans are recyclable but must be emptied before you place them in your recycling cart. If they need a quick rinse, that would be helpful.

Cardboard boxes are to be broken down, flattened, and placed in your recycling cart. If shipping boxes come filled with protective Styrofoam or Styrofoam “popcorn,” or bubble wrap, put those in your garbage cart, NOT in your recycling cart.

Clothing CANNOT be recycled. They are known as tanglers and will cause the recycling machinery to tangle up and shut down. Other tanglers include plastic grocery bags, plastic trash bags, hoses, wire hangers, and anything you can wrap around your arm. Please take old clothes to a local donation center like Goodwill, and your plastic grocery bags back to your local grocery store of one of our Green Stations.

If you have old electronics, glass, or household hazardous waste, please visit one of our Green Stations in North Little Rock, Maumelle, Sherwood, or Jacksonville. The Green Stations accept old electronics, household hazardous waste like herbicides and pesticides (in their original package or container), used automotive oil and gasoline, used antifreeze, fluorescent lights (up to 4 feet), and more. For the full list of accepted items, locations, and hours, please visit MyDoRight.com.
