Let’s Break It Down

While we need to support local retailers, you no doubt have increased your online shopping. And that means more cardboard on your doorstep. But the convenience of cardboard shipping boxes also creates a lot of recyclable materials. Cardboard is one of the most recyclable items, as it provides much-needed fiber and pulp for a whole host of recycled products. These include, new boxes, tissue, printer paper, paper towels, and more. To do cardboard recycling right, make sure you remove any plastic bubble wrap, or Styrofoam “popcorn.” They go in the trash. Then breakdown and flatten out the box so it will fit inside your curbside recycling cart. That’s it! While paper products like cardboard are biodegradable, we don’t want them in the landfill. Why? Because as they breakdown, they create methane gas. We don’t need any more of that in our atmosphere. Recycling cardboard makes sense. And it’s the right thing to do.
