Frequently Asked Recycling Questions (and Answers!)

These items DO belong in your recycling cart:

Empty plastic bottles and jugs, empty aluminum, steel, and tin cans, and paper, cardboard, empty cartons, newspaper, junk mail, and paper board. 

These items DO NOT belong in your recycling cart:

Plastic grocery bags, trash bags, food, food scraps, yard waste, anything that can spoil, clothes, fabric, wire, rope, hangers, and no electronics of any kind. 

 

When it comes to specific items it can be harder to determine the right thing to do with it. Here are some of the questions, with answers, we have gotten lately. 

 

-Can the pop-top and lids on steel, tin, or aluminum cans go into the recycling cart?

YES, but pop-tops and lids on steel, tin, or aluminum cans need to stay ON the original can.  When these are off the original can they get stuck in Waste Management’s sorting machinery. 

 

-Do the lids on plastic bottles and jars need to be removed?

NO! Please keep all screw on plastic lids on plastic bottle cans and jars. 

 

-Can I recycle shredded paper?

NO, Waste Management prefers residents to put shredded paper in your regular garbage can, it will decompose quickly, or you can add it to your compost. 

 

-My office is getting rid of old electronics, can I take these to one of the Green Stations?

NO, Green stations are for Pulaski County Residents only. If you are a Pulaski County business getting rid of old electronics you need to call eSCO at 479-270-2565 to schedule a pickup. 

 

-What number of plastics can I put into my recycling cart?

#1 and #2 plastics belong in your recycling cart. These numbers can be found on the bottom of the plastic containers. 

 

-Can I recycle medicine bottles?

YES, over-the-counter medicine bottles DO belong in your recycling cart if they have a #1 or #2 on the bottom. 

NO, prescription medicine bottles DO NOT belong in your recycling cart, they are not a #1 or #2 plastic.

 

-I live in an apartment; can I recycle?

YES!

You can take your recyclable items to Natural State Recycling from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. every weekday, 4501 Thibault Rd, LR 72206. Their number is 501-490-0500

You can also take your recyclable items to Waste Management from 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. every weekday, 7900 Sloan Dr, LR 72206.
