Happy New Year

It’s a New Year! And a perfect time to make a Recycling Resolution. That resolution is to re-double our efforts to do recycling right. Remember, recycling begins with you. So, during the month of January we’ll be sharing simple tips from our friends at the Compact Alliance to help inform us all on the right way to recycle. It’s important. The fact is, research estimates nearly 100,000 pounds of trash will be created by each individual during a lifetime. That impacts our shared environment. Part of what we routinely discard isn’t trash at all. It’s recyclable! And recycling protects the public health by diverting material from local landfills, provides reusable “raw material” for manufacturers, and helps reduce greenhouse gases that negatively affect seasonal climate. But to make sure it all works for all of us, recycling should be done right (not wrong). To help us along, the first tip suggests that we should take baby steps. Knowing what to recycle, like the basics of empty plastic bottles and jugs, empty metal cans, and uncoated mixed paper and cardboard, is a great way to start.
