Beginning April 1, 2019, glass will no longer be accepted in curbside recycling carts

Recycling glass is the right thing to do. It provides raw materials for new products and avoids landfill waste. But glass is difficult to process when mixed in with other recyclable items. In fact, broken glass in your curbside cart can prevent other recyclables like paper, cardboard, cans, and plastic bottles from being recycled. So, beginning April 1, 2019, glass will no longer be accepted in curbside recycling carts. As an option, we will now accept glass at our five Green Stations around Pulaski County. Designated Edwards Food Stores will collect recyclable glass, too. So what kind of glass is recyclable? Well, it’s simple: bottles, jars, beverage glasses, and glass that’s tempered, broken and any color. The rule is, that glass containers with an opening at the top smaller than the base at the bottom are recyclable. (Beverage glasses are the exception, and recyclable.) But please make sure all glass containers are empty and rinsed. Glass that’s not acceptable are light bulbs, mirrors, cookware, dishes, ceramic, leaded, porcelain and plexiglass.
