Cardboard Holidays Are Upon Us

December is here and we were all filled with cheer! Or trying to be. Sometimes the holidays are rough. From endless crowds and five o’clock sunsets to family visits, there is a lot going on. That probably means there is a lot more going in your house too. If you’ve become overwhelmed with all the boxes, the packages, the bags, and as the Grinch says, “All the noise, noise noise,” then we can at least help you create some more space.

When it comes time to recycling those cardboard boxes you have piling up, follow these three simple steps:

1. Break It Down: Break down cardboard boxes by tearing or cutting along the seams. The box should easily fold up.
 2. Flatten It Out: Cardboard sides or pieces must be flat to be able to fit inside your recycling cart to be recycled.
 3. Fit It Inside Your Cart: Cardboard, like other recyclables, must fit inside the recycling cart to be picked up. Please don’t overstuff your cart. If you have more than the cart will hold, save the pieces for the next pick-up.

Also, important to note: make sure to remove any Styrofoam™, air pillow, and packing peanuts before recycling your cardboard boxes. Those materials are not recyclable and should be placed in your trash instead. However, you can leave the tape on your cardboard. To learn more, visit FlatCardboard.com.
