Why is there a National Recycling Day?
Thanks for participating in Tuesday’s National Recycling Day! Here’s some history: National Recycling Day or America Recycles Day started in 1994 with Texas Recycles Day. The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) embraced the idea. The first National Recycling Day was announced on October 1, 1997, by NRC and the EPA, with then-Vice President Al Gore serving as honorary chairman of the event. Arkansas can claim some recognition for National Recycling Day because in 1999 President Bill Clinton signed a proclamation making the day a national observance. While this past Tuesday was the official recognition of the 2022 National Recycling Day, we can observe it every day through the sustainability practices of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
