Holiday Opportunities for Renewal (and for Recycling Right!)
Some of the items moving off the shelf the fastest this holiday season were household electronics: TVs, computers, tablets and game stations. And more will be sold in the next month due to after-holiday sales. Out with the old, in with the new.
But wait! Don’t trash your old electronics. Instead, drop them off for recycling at any one of our five Green Stations located throughout Pulaski County. You need to know that electronic waste makes up 70% of the toxic waste in landfills. Chemicals and metals like mercury, lead, cadmium and other toxic waste found in electronics have no business in landfills.
In order to protect our shared environment, these recyclable products, including laptops, desktops, tablet computers and their components, are collected at our Green Stations and refurbished for re-sale to such entities as public-school districts, at a greatly reduced cost. And when it comes to old TVs (you know, the heavy, bulky ones with TV tubes in them), stay tuned, because in the next couple of weeks we’ll show you how you can get rid of those obsolete items on Saturday, February 23, at a one-day, joint special collection in Pulaski and Saline Counties.
